Before you start (Intercom)

Getting Started with your Alocity AI-1000 Intercom

Welcome to the Alocity AI-1000 Video Intercom Installation Guide! In this guide, we will help you set up and configure the Alocity AI-1000 to create a seamless Alocity Intercom system. This intercom also includes remote entry functionalities, allowing residents to remotely open doors through an app on their phone. Follow the steps below to ensure a smooth installation process.

Step 1: Conduct a Site Survey

Before installing Alocity hardware, conduct a customer site survey to determine the following:
  • The number of entries that need to be configured (e.g., doors, gates, and elevator floors)
  • Whether you're using legacy wiring or new wiring
  • What kind of electronic entry mechanisms, Request to Exit (REX) mechanisms, and door contact sensors will be used and their power requirements.

Step 2: Installation Prerequisites

Ensure the following prerequisites are met:

  • Installation to be performed only by a certified installer
  • Power Sourcing Requirement: (DC) 12V - 2.0 A Power Source
  • It is recommended to source an independent power supply with battery backup exclusively for the device to ensure continuous operation and reliability
  • Wiegand/OSDP Badge Reader max cable length: 10 ft - 22 AWG (1.5 m)
  • Wiegand Controller Panel max cable length: 500 ft - 22 AWG (152 m), 300 ft - 24 AWG (91 m)
  • OSDP Panel max cable length: 4000 ft - 24 AWG (1,219 m)

*IMPORTANT NOTICE: The Alocity AI-1000 Intercom requires an external power source. Ensure the correct power source is used to avoid damage to the device and voiding the warranty.

Step 3: Parts Included

Ensure you have the following parts included:

  • 1x Alocity AI-1000 Intercom
  • 1x Two piece aluminium wall mount
  • 1x Wiring harness
  • 1x Security L-Wrench
  • 4x Anchors
  • 4x Mounting screws
  • 1x 100-240V~50/60 Hz 1.5 A Input to 12V 2.0 A DC Output Wall Plug Power Adapter *

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Do not extend the power source beyond the length of the included cable (6.6 ft) by cutting and splicing. This power adapter is not designed for modified cable extensions. For installations requiring a longer reach, please either extend the 100-240V outlet to the adapter or use an independent power source with the same output specifications (12V 2.0A). We highly recommend using a professionally protected, third-party power supply with battery backup for optimal performance and reliability.

Step 4: Required Tools and Supplies

Prepare the following tools and supplies for the installation:

  • Level
  • Measuring tape
  • Wire stripper/cutter
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver
  • 2.0 or 1.5 mm Precision Slotted Screwdriver
  • Power Drill*
  • Drill bit set**
  • Portable soldering Iron KIT ***
  • Electrical Solder***

*Hammer drill is required when working with a masonry or concrete block wall.

**Drill bit set will need to include at least 1⁄4 Inch drill bit if the intercom will be installed directly in the wall without a gang box, additionally a 1-1/4 Inch Hole Saw when working on drywall.

***These tools only apply when installing a lock connected directly to the AI-1000 Intercom
