[Configuration Tips](https://help.alocity.com/knowledge/aivr-installation-setup-and-configuration-guide?hsLang=en#configuration-tips) # Common RTSP Stream URLs by Camera Manufacturer ## RTSP Stream Paths and Examples for Axis, Hanwha, Hikvision, Dahua, Avigilon, Bosch and Other Common Cameras Every AiVR camera connection is an RTSP stream. With ONVIF working, the AiVR reads the stream address from the camera by itself, but you'll still want the address for testing, and you'll need it when ONVIF isn't available. This article lists the stream paths used by 12 common camera manufacturers, with examples. > **IMPORTANT:** These are the manufacturers' commonly published paths, provided as a starting point. Alocity doesn't maintain RTSP addresses for third-party cameras, and paths vary by model, firmware and stream profile. Always confirm the address for the exact model, and test it before entering it on the AiVR. --- ### 1. How an RTSP Address Is Built The general form is: `rtsp://username:password@camera-ip:554/path` Only the **path** changes between manufacturers. When adding a camera manually on the AiVR, split the address into the form fields: | Part | Example | AiVR field | | --- | --- | --- | | username:password | admin:Str0ngPass | **User** / **Password** | | camera-ip | 192.168.1.64 | **IP** | | 554 | 554 (the RTSP default) | **Port** | | path | Streaming/Channels/101 | **Append URL** | See [Adding Cameras to Your AiVR](https://help.alocity.com/knowledge/b.-adding-cameras-to-you-aivr?hsLang=en) for the full add-camera steps. > **Tip:** Avoid the characters @ : / # ? % in camera passwords; they break RTSP addresses. If a password must contain them, URL-encode them (@ becomes %40, # becomes %23, : becomes %3A). --- ### 2. Stream Paths by Manufacturer | Manufacturer | Main stream path | Multi-sensor, channel or other streams | | --- | --- | --- | | **Axis** | /axis-media/media.amp | Sensor or view: ?camera=2. Codec and size can be set in the URL, for example ?videocodec=h265&resolution=1920x1080&fps=15 | | **Hanwha Vision (Wisenet)** | /profile2/media.smp | Profile number = the camera's video profile (profile1 is often MJPEG). Multi-sensor: /0/profile2/media.smp, /1/profile2/media.smp (channels start at 0) | | **Hikvision** | /Streaming/Channels/101 | 102 = substream. Sensor or channel 2 = 201, 3 = 301 | | **Dahua** | /cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0 | subtype=1 = substream. Sensor 2 = channel=2 | | **Avigilon** | /defaultPrimary?streamType=u | defaultSecondary = second stream. RTSP and an ONVIF user must be enabled on the camera first. Multi-sensor paths vary by model | | **Bosch** | /?h26x=4&line=1&inst=1 | inst=2 = second stream. Sensor or line 2 = line=2 | | **Uniview (UNV)** | /media/video1 | video2 = substream, video3 = third stream | | **Vivotek** | /live1s1.sdp | live1s2.sdp = stream 2. Sensor 2 = live2s1.sdp | | **i-PRO (Panasonic)** | /MediaInput/h264/stream\_1 | H.265: /MediaInput/h265/stream\_1. stream\_2 = second stream | | **Pelco (Sarix)** | /stream1 | stream2 = secondary stream | | **Reolink** | /h264Preview\_01\_main | H.265 models: /h265Preview\_01\_main. \_sub = substream. Channel 2 = \_02\_ | | **MOBOTIX** | /stream0/mobotix.h264 | MOBOTIX 7 / MOVE H.264 stream. Don't use the MJPEG stream (mobotix.mjpeg); MJPEG isn't supported | #### Brands that use another manufacturer's paths - **Amcrest** and many **Lorex** IP cameras use the **Dahua** format. - **LTS**, **ANNKE** and other Hikvision-based brands usually use the **Hikvision** format. - If a camera doesn't match its brand's path, check whether it's a rebadged model and try the original manufacturer's format. > **Note:** **Ubiquiti UniFi** cameras stream through the UniFi console rather than the camera, after RTSP is turned on for the camera in UniFi Protect. That is "video through another recorder": check with Alocity support before planning it. --- ### 3. How to Find or Confirm the Address 1. **The camera's web interface.** Many cameras show the stream address on the network, RTSP or streaming settings page. 2. **An ONVIF test tool,** such as ONVIF Device Manager. Connect with the camera's credentials and it lists the address of every stream, the same way the AiVR reads it. 3. **The existing NVR or VMS.** Its camera settings usually show the address it pulls from. 4. **The manufacturer's documentation.** Search the model number with "RTSP URL" on the manufacturer's support site. 5. **Installer forums or an AI assistant with web search** (such as Claude, Gemini or ChatGPT), asked about the exact model. Test whatever you find. --- ### 4. Test Before You Add 1. From a laptop on the same network as the camera, open VLC and choose **Media › Open Network Stream**. 2. Enter the full address, including the username and password. 3. If the video plays for a couple of minutes without freezing, the AiVR can use it. 4. Check the codec and resolution (VLC: **Tools › Codec Information**) match the profile you set. If a test fails, check the address and password carefully before trying again. --- ### 5. Common Errors | Error | Usually means | | --- | --- | | 401 Unauthorized | Wrong username or password, special characters in the password, the NVR's login used instead of the camera's, or a camera clock that's wrong | | 404 / stream not found | Wrong path, profile or channel number | | Connection refused or timeout | RTSP is off, the port isn't 554, or the camera isn't reachable from your network | | Plays, but wrong view | Wrong sensor or channel index; Hanwha channels start at 0, most others at 1 | | Grey or green frames | Try H.264 if H.265 shows artifacts; check for smart codecs | For questions or assistance, please contact your account manager or email [support@alocity.com](mailto:support@alocity.com). -
