Before you start

Getting Started with your Alocity F3D100 Reader

Welcome to the Alocity (F3D100) Multi-Function Reader Installation Guide! In this guide, we will help you set up and configure Alocity Smart Readers to create a seamless Alocity Access Control system. Follow the steps below to ensure a smooth installation process.

Step 1: Conduct a Site Survey

Before installing Alocity hardware, conduct a customer site survey to determine the following:

  • The number of entries that need to be configured (e.g. doors, gates, and elevator floors)
  • Whether you're using legacy wiring or new wiring
  • What kind of electronic entry mechanisms, Request to Exit (REX) mechanisms, and door contact sensors will be used and their power requirements.

Step 2: Installation Prerequisites

Ensure the following prerequisites are met:

  • Installation to be performed only by a certified installer
  • Power Sourcing Requirement: PoE 802.3af Type 1 48V 200mA (9w).
  • Unit to be powered by UL294B certified IEEE PoE 802.3af Type 1 Power Sourcing Equipment using unshielded Cat5e or better cable with a maximum cable length of 330 feet (100 meters). POE+ or sources of higher power can be compatible, provided they support IEEE 802.3af and have intelligent capabilities to prevent overloading (Over current protection).
  • A ULC 60839-11-1 Listed power supply with the appropriate grade is required for ULC installations
  • Wiegand/OSDP Badge Reader max cable length: 5 ft - 22 AWG (1.5 m)
  • Wiegand Panel max cable length: 500 ft - 22 AWG (152 m), 300 ft - 24 AWG (91 m)
  • OSDP Panel max cable length: 4000 ft - 24 AWG (1,219 m)

*IMPORTANT NOTICE: The Alocity F3D100 reader is powered through PoE (Power over Ethernet) and does NOT require connection to 12V or 24V DC or AC power. Connecting the reader to an external power source will cause damage to the device and void the warranty.

Step 3: Parts Included

Ensure you have the following parts included:

  • 1x Alocity F3D100 Reader
  • 1x Wall plate
  • 1x Wiring harness.
  • 1x Security L-Wrench
  • 2x Anchors
  • 2x Mounting screws.
  • 1x Diode 1n4007

Step 4: Required Tools and Supplies

Prepare the following tools and supplies for the installation:

  • 1-Gang switch box
  • Level
  • Measuring tape
  • Wire stripper/cutter
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver
  • 2.0 or 1.5 mm Precision Slotted Screwdriver
  • Power Drill*
  • Drill bit set**
  • Portable soldering Iron KIT ***
  • Electrical Solder***

*Hammer drill is required when working with a masonry or concrete block wall.

**Drill bit set will need to include at least 1⁄4 Inch drill bit if the reader will be installed directly in the wall without a gang box, additionally a 1-1/4 Inch Hole Saw when working on a drywall.

***These tools only apply when installing a lock connected directly to the F3D100 Reader

Installation:

Before proceeding with the installation, it is important to ensure that your network meets the necessary requirements.

Network Requirements:

    1. Ethernet Connection: An Ethernet connection with DHCP should be used to connect the ACU (Access Control Unit) to the Local Area Network (LAN).
    2. Firewall Settings: Configure your firewall settings to enable communication with the Alocity system. The following inbound and outbound ports must be open:
      • TCP Port 443 & 8883
      • NTP Port 123
      • RTSP Port 554

NOTE: Optimal Device Performance Recommendations

For stable connections and optimal results with the device, it is recommended that each device maintains an internet service speed within the 10 to 25 Mbps range for both download and upload. To ensure this bandwidth is stable:

          • Measure Jitter: Regularly measure jitter to assess the stability of the connection.
          • Inspect Wiring: Conduct physical inspections of the wiring to avoid false contacts on the Ethernet pin or internal lines.
          • Direct Connection Testing: For testing purposes, connect the device directly to the internet source to verify the connection quality.

Adhering to these guidelines will help maintain consistent performance and reliability of the device.
