[Elevator Control Configuration](https://help.alocity.com/knowledge/elevator-control?hsLang=en#elevator-control-configuration) # Activating Elevator Control and Mapping Floors to Relays ## How to Activate Elevator Control on a Mercury Controller, Map Floors to Relays and Test Them After creating the floors, activate elevator control on the controller and map each floor to a physical relay. A floor isn't accessible until it's mapped. --- ### 1. Activate Elevator Control > **IMPORTANT:** Activating elevator control rebuilds the controller's memory. The controller goes offline while it reprovisions, which can take many minutes, and **every door on that controller is affected**. Do this in a maintenance window, with someone on site. 1. Go to **Access Control › Hardware › ACUs** and open the Mercury controller for the elevator. 2. Select the **Elevator** tab. If it shows **Elevator is not active**. - Set the capacity: - **Allocated floor capacity**: floor slots to reserve, with room to grow. - **Allocated elevator-access-level capacity**: each schedule that grants floors uses one level per cabin. Usable levels = this value − 1 (reserved by the panel), minus 1 for each cabin with public floors. - **Button window (s)**: how long floor buttons stay enabled. This can be changed later without a rebuild. 3. Click **Review and activate elevator**. The **Reallocation impact** dialog shows the panel rebuild, how many doors are affected and how many floor mappings are kept. 4. Click **Do it now** to activate. > **Note:** Changing either capacity later requires another rebuild, so allow for growth now. --- ### 2. Open the Elevator Controller ![](https://help.alocity.com/hs-fs/hubfs/fig-1-open-the-elevator-controller.png?width=670&height=333&name=fig-1-open-the-elevator-controller.png) Once active, the **Elevator** tab shows: - **Saved floor mappings**: floors currently mapped to a relay. - **Allocated access-level slots**: schedules targeting mapped floors. - **Button window**: how long (seconds) a floor button stays enabled. --- ### 3. Configure the Elevator Cabin ![](https://help.alocity.com/hs-fs/hubfs/fig-2-configure-the-elevator-cabin.png?width=670&height=333&name=fig-2-configure-the-elevator-cabin.png) - **Select the cabin**, or click **+ Add cabin** for another. - **Elevator reader**: assign the reader in the cabin, or click **+ Create elevator reader** to bind a free reader port. - **Operating mode**: **Relay control (EL1)**. - **Relay blocks**: each cabin uses its own relay block; floor permissions are shared across the bank. --- ### 4. Review every floor afterwards. - **Drag to reorder**: drag a floor to change its position in the stack. - **Floor label and name**: click either to edit. - **+ Add floor above** / **+ Add floor below**: add a floor at the top or bottom of the stack. - **Assigned relay**: change the relay assigned to a floor, or click **+ assign relay**. --- ### 5. Set the Floor Access Mode ![](https://help.alocity.com/hs-fs/hubfs/fig-4-floor-access-mode-and-relay-information.png?width=670&height=333&name=fig-4-floor-access-mode-and-relay-information.png) Click a floor's access mode to change it: - **Credential** (default): the user must present a valid credential, and their group must have access to the floor through a schedule. Use it for office, residential, restricted and executive floors. - **Free access (public)**: the floor button works without a credential during an attached unlock schedule. Use it for a lobby, public parking or shared amenity floor during set hours. Attach an existing schedule or click **Create public schedule**. --- ### 6. Test Every Relay ![](https://help.alocity.com/hs-fs/hubfs/fig-5-test-elevator-floor-relays.png?width=670&height=333&name=fig-5-test-elevator-floor-relays.png) - **Pulse** each floor and confirm the correct physical button activates. - If the wrong floor activates (for example, Floor 4 and Floor 3 are swapped), correct the relays and test both floors again. > **Best practice:** Don't assume sequential relay numbers match the physical floor buttons.
