[Setup and Configuration](https://help.alocity.com/knowledge/mercury-installation-setup-and-configuration-guide?hsLang=en#setup-and-configuration) # Configuring Relay Outputs and Locks ## How to Configure Lock Relays and Auxiliary Outputs on Mercury Controllers Relay outputs control electric strikes, magnetic locks, motorized locks, gate operators and other devices, including the relays on MR16OUT boards. --- ### 1. Open a Relay Output 1. Go to **Hardware** › **ACUs** and click the controller's name. 2. On the **Topology** tab, click the board the device is wired to. 3. Click an output, such as **O1** to **O4**. > **Note:** Before making changes, confirm the board shows **MATCHED**. This means the configuration matches the physical hardware. The number of reader ports, inputs and outputs depends on the board model. Type Tab | Type | Use it for | | --- | --- | | **Electric Strike** | Standard door-frame strikes | | **Magnetic Lock** | Magnetic locks (powered to lock) | | **Motorized / Smart Lock** | Electrified mortise locks, lever sets and other motor-driven hardware | | **Auxiliary Output** | Sirens, strobes, gate operators, lighting and other devices | | **Elevator Floor** | A floor button relay for elevator control. See [Elevator Access Control Overview](https://help.alocity.com/knowledge/elevator-access-control-overview?hsLang=en). | Enter a **Name** such as "Rear Entrance Strike". Make sure the type matches how the lock is wired: fail-secure locks on the NO contact, fail-safe locks on the NC contact. Behavior Tab - **Unlock pulse (s)**: how long the relay stays active on a normal unlock. 5 seconds is a common starting point. - **Extended pulse (ADA)**: extra unlock time for users who need it. Set 0 if not needed. - **Strike timing Mode:**  Alocity offers two types  - **Cut strike when door opens:** relocks as soon as the door contact reports the door open. - **Cut strike when door Closes:** relocks as soon as the door contact reports the door as closed - **Do not pulse strike on REX**: turn on when the door already has free mechanical egress, so an exit is logged without unlocking. ![Screenshot 2026-11-05 125425](https://help.alocity.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Screenshot%202026-11-05%20125425.png?width=293&height=370&name=Screenshot%202026-11-05%20125425.png) --- ### 4. The relay then follows that door's schedules, unlock commands and lockdowns.  NOTE: You do not need to assign a door as this can me  manual/relay controlled device. --- ### 5. Live Tab ![Screenshot 2026-11-05 125500](https://help.alocity.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Screenshot%202026-11-05%20125500.png?width=309&height=347&name=Screenshot%202026-11-05%20125500.png) Click **Pulse** to activate the relay briefly, then check that the lock releases or the device turns on and the relay LED lights on the board. If the output shows **Not monitored**, the controller can't report the relay state, so check at the lock. > **IMPORTANT:** Pulsing a relay unlocks a real door. Make sure someone is at the door, or that it's safe, before testing. --- ### 6. Final Review - Every reader, input and relay has a clear name. - Input types and NC/NO settings match the wiring. - Each device is linked to the right door. - Relay behavior matches the lock hardware. - The board still shows **MATCHED**.
