# Creating and Managing Mercury Doors

## How to Create a Mercury Door, Change Its Wiring and Test It

A Mercury door brings together a reader port, a lock relay, a door contact and a REX input from a controller or sub-panel. This article covers creating a Mercury door and the tabs on its details page.

> **Note:** Configure the controller's ports first ([Configuring Readers](https://help.alocity.com/knowledge/mercury-configuring-readers?hsLang=en), [Configuring Inputs](https://help.alocity.com/knowledge/mercury-configuring-inputs?hsLang=en), [Configuring Relay Outputs and Locks](https://help.alocity.com/knowledge/mercury-configuring-relay-outputs-and-locks?hsLang=en)), or assign them while creating the door.

### 1. Create a Door

Open the **Access Control** module, select **Doors** and click **Create Door**. The wizard has five steps.

#### Step 1: Name & Site

- **Door name**: users see this name in events, mobile prompts and access groups.
- **Site**, **Primary Zone** (required) and **Secondary Zone** (optional).
- **Door type**: **Single** (entry reader only) or **Double** (entry and exit readers).

#### Step 2: Controller

Choose a controller at the site. Each card shows the model, the number of boards and whether it's **Online**. Only online controllers can be selected.

![Screenshot 2026-11-05 130829](https://help.alocity.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Screenshot%202026-11-05%20130829.png?width=670&height=241&name=Screenshot%202026-11-05%20130829.png)

#### Step 3: Hardware

Choose the board and port for each function. Ports already in use are greyed out with the name of what's using them.

| Function | Required? | What to choose |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Entry reader** | Optional | A board with reader ports, then the port (P1, P2) |
| **Lock relay** | Required | A board and output (for example O1–O4 on the controller, or a relay on an MR16OUT). Then the **Unlock time**: 5 s, 10 s, 15 s or Custom. |
| **Door contact (DPS)** | Required | An input (I1–I8). The wizard suggests one. |
| **Request to exit (REX)** | Optional | An input (I1–I8). The wizard suggests one. |

#### Step 4: Reader setup

1. **What's connected?** **Alocity Device** (choose **Intercom** or **Reader F3D100**) or **Other device** (any third-party reader).
2. **How does it talk to the panel?** Wiegand 26, Wiegand 34 or OSDP Secure. For OSDP, set the **Bus address** and **Baud rate**.

> **Note:** An OSDP Secure reader must be linked after the door is created, so the panel and reader can agree an encryption key. In OSDP: the reader port is shaded gold with a lock icon. This applies to third-party readers and to Alocity devices on a Mercury board.

#### Step 5: Review

Check each section and use **Edit** to change anything. The **Ready to create** checklist confirms the lock relay, door contact and entry reader are set. Click **Create Door**.

#### After you create the door

1. **Link the reader** (OSDP Secure only): go to **Hardware › ACUs**, open the controller, click the gold reader port on the **Topology** tab, select its **Security** tab and click **Link reader**. See [Configuring Readers](https://help.alocity.com/knowledge/mercury-configuring-readers?hsLang=en).
2. **Test the door**: swipe a credential and open the door to check the lock, contact and REX. See section 4 below.

---

### 2. The Doors List

The **Doors** list shows each door's **Type** (Embedded or Mercury), **Hardware** (controller and port), **Site**, door state (for example, Closed or Forced Entry) and lock state.

---

### 3. Mercury Door Details

Click a door's name to open it. The header shows **Keep Door Unlocked** and **Pulse Unlock**.

> **IMPORTANT:** Keep Door Unlocked leaves the door unlocked until you turn it off. Use a door unlock schedule for planned free-access hours instead.

| Tab | What it shows |
| --- | --- |
| **Hardware** | The door's setup (site, controller, sub-panel, entry reader, lock, door contact, REX and access mode), a wiring map, **Lock Release Time**, and **Live Test & Diagnostics**: **Pulse Lock**, **Read Contact**, **Identify Reader** and **Last Card Read**. |
| **Zones** | The door's primary and secondary zones. |
| **Access Groups** | Groups that can use the door, through the schedules that include it. |
| **Schedules** | Every schedule and visitor schedule that includes the door. |
| **Events** | Access logs for the door from the last 15 days, such as Access Granted and Denied (Unknown User). |
| **Advanced** | Reserved for integrator settings. |

#### Change the door's wiring

1. On the **Hardware** tab, click **Reassign**.
2. Choose the board, address and port for the **Entry Reader**, **Exit Reader**, **Lock Relay**, **Door Contact (DPS)** and **Request to Exit**.
3. Save. Changes are pushed to the panel when you save.

*![Screenshot 2026-11-05 131458](https://help.alocity.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Screenshot%202026-11-05%20131458.png?width=421&height=648&name=Screenshot%202026-11-05%20131458.png)*

#### Who can use the door

Access isn't granted on the door page. Users and groups get access through **schedules** that include the door (When × Who × Where). See [Adding Schedules](https://help.alocity.com/knowledge/adding-schedules?hsLang=en).

---

### 4. Test the Door

1. On the **Hardware** tab, click **Identify Reader** and check the right reader responds.
2. Click **Read Contact** with the door open and closed.
3. With someone at the door, click **Pulse Lock**.
4. Present a card from a user on a schedule for this door, and check **Events**.
