Wiring a Fail Safe Lock

How to connect a Fail Safe lock to the Alocity AI-1000 Intercom

When connecting the Alocity AI-1000 Intercom directly to an electric lock, it's important to understand the type of lock being used. In this section, we'll discuss connecting the intercom to a Fail Safe lock.

Important Notice: Incorrect installation of the diode as per the specifications outlined in section 4 of this guide will result in damage not immediately visible on the equipment but will void its warranty. Please adhere strictly to the instructions in section 4 to prevent any adverse impact on the device warranty.

Fail Safe Lock:

A Fail Safe lock typically has a current flowing through the relay when in its normal state. When the relay is activated, the current flow is blocked, and the door lock will open. If the power supply is cut off due to a power failure or an external factor, the door will remain open for safety reasons.

Follow these steps to properly wire the Alocity AI-1000 Intercom to a Fail Safe electric lock:

  1. Locate the pigtail on the back of the AI-1000, find the wired labeled relay, it has a green terminal block attached to the end of the wire.
  2. Connect NC (Normally Closed) to the positive (+) wire on the lock. NC is Position #3 on the Green Terminal Block.
  3. Attach the negative (-) wire from the power source to the negative (-) terminal on the lock.
  4. Connect COM (Common) to the positive (+) wire on the power source. COM is Position #2 on the Green Terminal Block.
  5. When installing the Alocity AI-1000 Intercom, use provided diodes on each side of the door lock wiring, ensuring correct placement next to the door lock (avoiding installation on power sources or device wiring), and proper soldering (splicing won't suffice) to protect the relay from voltage backflow during door lock operations. Improper installation may lead to random failures (LED, device, or communication issues) at unspecified intervals (2 hours to 2 weeks), potentially causing permanent damage to the device; note that diodes are applicable only in DC circuits.

Note: For configuring the relay and door lock settings in your access control system, please consult the Alocity Software User Guide. This guide provides clear instructions on how to set up and adjust the relay and door settings within the software to ensure proper functionality and security.
